E.F.T. — Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is a form of psychological acupressure that can help calm anxiety and relieve stress when used mindfully. It is based on tapping into the same energy meridians used Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat physical and emotional ailments. But, instead of using needles, you simply use your fingers to tap energetic points and meridians around the body while thinking or verbalizing your specific problem, whether a traumatic event, emotional state, or specific stressor.

This combination of tapping and verbalizing can work to clear the emotional and energetic block that stress and trauma can bring, thus restoring your body-mind back into a state of ease and balance.

The first step is acknowledge the problem.
For example, “I worry that I will fail at my work responsibilities.”
Note the intensity of this problem on a scale of 1-10.

Then, create self-acceptance!
Using the first two fingers of your dominant hand, tap through the acupressure points listed below while thinking or verbalizing the following positive affirmation:

Even though I have this fear of failure, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

Tap with intention, repeating the affirmation 3-5 times at each acupressure point.
  1. Crown of the head.
  2. Inside area of eyebrows, at the top of your nose.
  3. Outside of eye, between the eye and the temple.
  4. Under the eye, at the top edge of the cheekbone.
  5. Under the nose, above the upper lip.
  6. Middle of the chin.
  7. Just below collarbone.
  8. The sternum, just above the breast.
  9. On the side of your torso, approximately 4 inches below your armpit.

Note once again the intensity of your stress. Did you find some relief? If you continue to feel hindered or anxious with stress, then you may want to tap through those points again. Consider revising your affirmation to acknowledge your second try. For example, “Even though I still have this fear of failure, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
